How the calculator works
Fees from Gumroad pricingPayhip pricingStan help centreLemon Squeezy pricing and Kit pricing, all checked Nov 2026. Where card processing is separate we use Stripe's 2.9% plus 30c for US cards (Stripe pricing).
The three numbers that matter
Digital product income is reach times conversion times price. Reach is how many people see the offer, which is rarely your whole audience. Conversion is how many of them buy. Price is what you charge. A 5,000 person audience where one in five sees a $29 offer and 2% of those buy is 20 sales and $580 before fees.
We could not find a trustworthy cross platform conversion rate for digital products, so the 2% and 20% defaults are examples. Run a small launch, count real views and sales, and replace them.
Fees by platform
Gumroad charges 10% plus 50 cents per direct sale plus card processing, and acts as merchant of record, so it handles sales tax. Payhip's free plan charges 5%, its $29 Plus plan 2% and its $99 Pro plan 0%, with PayPal or Stripe fees on top. Stan charges no transaction fee on its $29 Creator plan, but Stripe or PayPal fees apply. Lemon Squeezy charges 5% plus 50 cents and handles tax. Kit charges 3.5% plus 30 cents all in.
At low volume, percentage plans win. Once you sell regularly, a flat plan like Payhip Pro or Stan can keep more. Switch platforms in the calculator to see where the lines cross for your numbers.
Courses and bigger products
Courses usually sell to fewer people at a higher price. The same calculator works, just raise the price and lower the conversion. If you want a structured plan for building the audience first, our course covers channel choice, a posting rhythm and your first offer.

Frequently asked questions
How much can you make selling digital products?
It depends on reach, conversion and price. A 5,000 person audience with 20% seeing the offer and 2% buying a $29 product makes about 20 sales a month, roughly $490 to $555 after fees on the percentage plans in this calculator.
Which platform has the lowest fees for digital products?
At small volume Kit's 3.5% plus 30 cents or Payhip's 5% plus card fees are low. At higher volume flat plans such as Payhip Pro with 0% or Stan with no transaction fee can cost less.
Does Gumroad handle sales tax?
Yes. Gumroad acts as merchant of record and handles sales tax, as does Lemon Squeezy. Payhip handles EU and UK VAT and US and Canadian sales tax.
Does this include payment processing?
Yes. Where a platform charges card fees separately we add Stripe's 2.9% plus 30 cents for US cards.
