The verdict

Most creators should start on Kit Free, and stay there longer than they think

The Free plan now covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts, landing pages and forms, and you can sell digital products and paid newsletter subscriptions on it. Upgrade to Creator when you need automated sequences (welcome series, launch funnels) or want Kit branding removed.

Choose Free ifYou mostly send a weekly broadcast and sell a few products
Choose Creator ifYou need visual automations and email sequences
Choose Pro ifYou want the newsletter referral system, engagement scoring and unlimited team users

What the Free plan actually includes

  • Up to 10,000 subscribers
  • Unlimited landing pages, forms and email broadcasts
  • Audience tagging and segmentation
  • Sell digital products and subscriptions
  • Community support

What it doesn’t include, unlimited visual automations and sequences, removal of Kit branding, and the free migration service, those start on Creator.

Creator vs Pro, is Pro worth it?

Creator ($39/mo monthly or $33/mo billed yearly at 1,000 subscribers) is the plan most growing newsletters need, unlimited automations and sequences, RSS-to-email, SMS and 24/7 support.

Pro ($79/mo monthly or $66/mo billed yearly at 1,000 subscribers) adds Subscriber Signals and engagement scoring, the built-in newsletter referral system, unlimited users, deliverability reporting and priority support. If you run a referral programme or a team, Pro earns its keep; solo creators usually don’t need it. When we checked, Kit was also advertising a limited first-year discount on Pro, check the pricing page for the current offer.

The fee most people miss. Kit Commerce

If you sell products or paid newsletters through Kit, Kit charges 3.5% + $0.30 per USD transaction. That figure already includes card processing, it is not added on top of Stripe, and there is no monthly commerce fee. It applies on every plan, Free included.

Example, paid newsletter on Kit Free
100 paid subscribers × $8/mo$800 revenue
Kit, 3.5% + $0.30 × 100$58.00
You keep$742.00

Compare that with Substack at the same revenue (10% + Stripe + 0.7% Billing ≈ $138.80) in our Substack fees breakdown, or run your own numbers in the fee calculator.
