How the calculator works

RPM from revenuerevenue ÷ views × 1,000
Estimated RPM from CPMCPM × share of views with an ad × revenue share (55% long form, 45% Shorts)

Revenue shares from YouTube Help, partner earnings overview, checked Nov 2026. The Shorts share applies to revenue allocated from the Shorts creator pool, so the CPM estimate is rougher for Shorts.

RPM and CPM are not the same

CPM is what advertisers pay for 1,000 ad impressions. RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views of your video. RPM is lower because YouTube keeps its share and because many views show no ad at all. YouTube's help page says partners receive 55% of net ad revenue on long form watch pages and 45% of the revenue allocated to them from Shorts.

The first result on this page gives your true RPM from your own numbers. The second gives a rough estimate from a CPM, which is useful when you are planning a new channel or comparing niches.

Why RPM changes from month to month

Advertisers spend more at some times of year than others, so RPM moves with the season. Viewers in some countries are worth more to advertisers than others. Longer videos can carry more ads. And some topics attract higher bids than others.

That is why we treat RPM as an input you bring, not a number we supply. Third party RPM tables online use different samples and years, and YouTube itself does not publish an average.

Earning beyond ads

Ads are only one stream. YouTube's help page says partners receive 70% of net revenue from channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Thanks. Sponsorships are usually priced per 1,000 views, with Descript citing $5 to $30 as of early 2025. Our YouTube earnings calculator adds ads and sponsors together.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate YouTube RPM?

Divide your estimated revenue by your total views and multiply by 1,000.

What share of ad revenue does YouTube pay creators?

55% of net ad revenue on long form videos and 45% of the revenue allocated to you from Shorts, according to YouTube Help in November 2026.

Why is my RPM lower than my CPM?

RPM counts every view and is after YouTube's share. CPM only counts ad impressions and is before the split.

What is a good YouTube RPM?

It depends on niche and audience location. Compare against your own past months rather than a general table.
